So I was pretty sure Percy’s juvenile molt was over (aside from her wings). But now she’s getting pins on her tail and head again and is dropping feathers and fluff like crazy?? But her flight feathers still haven’t finished growing in??
Could this still be the same molt (she first started losing feathers and fluff back in late SEPTEMBER) or is she seriously starting a new molt before the last one’s finished? Is that a thing??
That sounds pretty typical of how budgies molt. Mine have always molted twice a year at seemingly random intervals. I know light exposure plays a role in regulating their body clock throughout the year, so I imagine that has something to do with it. I wouldn’t worry unless there’s something abnormal about this molt. If you have any doubts, call your local avian vet and they can give you more guidance (phone calls are free!) In the meantime, make sure she has access to plenty of healthy foods and help her scritch those pinnies!
